Shell is currently seeking a Health Safety Environment Technician* to work at their Fort Saint John /Edson.

Responsibilities:


This position provides leadership, tools, training and services in the area of Health, Safety, Security and Environment for Surface Construction Projects. This position is accountable and provides expertise for:

  • Serving as a resource in regulatory compliance matters
  • Providing HSE subject matter expertise to Shell and Contractor field operations staff
  • Driving effectiveness and efficiency of the HSE management processes through standardization, simplification, documentation, strengthening competence and the application of effective tools
  • Assisting with annual HSSE plans, objectives, targets, performance measures and scorecards
  • Reviewing critical safe work practices across the business supported and validates procedures and safe work practices
  • Participating on projects (Gap Analysis and Critical HSE Systems, Contractor Management etc.)
  • Coordinating HSE Program development including Contractor HSE performance and implementation 
  • Auditing / Inspecting HSE activities and programs internally for business and contractors
  • Participating and leading HSE incident investigations
  • Coordinating the sharing of best practices, learning's and issues
  • Driving improvements in the businesses through clarification of the root cause of incidents and communicating the outcome



Requirements:


  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • College Diploma Preferred
  • CSO (Construction Safety Officer) Certification required
  • 5 years HSE experience, preferably in the Oilfield Construction field
  • 5 years auditing experience, preferably in the Oilfield Construction field
  • Strong knowledge of Exploration and Production Operations and Projects Execution Businesses
  • Understanding of existing business processes and ability to effectively integrate HSE into these processes
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Health, Safety, Security Environment management principles, systems and standards
  • In-depth understanding of relevant HSE related legislation and the ability to identify potential impacts on the business and proactively respond to ensure due diligence and compliance
  • Demonstrated experience training and facilitating HSE topics to various groups
  • Demonstrated experience leading and influencing contractors
  • Self-starter who can work with minimal supervision and broad managerial direction while developing innovative solutions to complex problems
  • Intermediate knowledge/use of MS Office Suite, including Power Point
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Current clear Drivers Abstract 
  • Company truck provided
  • Some out of town overnight stays (hotel)
  • Travel required (within field location)
  • This is a Safety Sensitive position
