Shell Exploration & Production Company (SEPCo) is responsible for safely finding, developing and producing oil and natural gas in the United States. Shell has been operating in the Gulf of Mexico for five decades and these operations provide more than 73 percent of our U.S. oil and gas production.
 
SEPCo, which employs approximately 2,000 people in the U.S., is the largest of Shell's E&P operating units, accounting for 17 percent of Shell's worldwide oil and gas production. Based in Houston, Texas, our key operating locations are in the Gulf of Mexico, South Texas, Wyoming, Alabama, and Alaska. 
 
Shell Exploration and Production Company is seeking an/a Safety Engineer Team Lead- Offshore for their New Orleans, Louisiana location.
 


Responsibilities:


  • Acts as the working supervisor for a small team of staff and contractor safety engineers, providing technical safety support to the onshore and pipeline operations in EPW. The team consists of approximately 6 staff/contractors
 
Key Accountabilities:
  • Process hazard analyses, hazards/risk assessments, HSE Case development, physical effects modeling, MOC review, HAZOP, project HSE planning, and specific hazard/risk assessments
  • Supporting incident investigations, participating in audits, and other activities to support the implementation of the HSEMS in EPW operations



Requirements:


 

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Facilities/reliability/process/maintenance engineering background required
  • Excellent judgment and understanding to determine when risk have been reduced to ALARP
  • Self-assured, confident, able to execute position responsibilities with minimal guidance
  • Good knowledge of HSE Management Systems
  • Strong planning and coordination skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work within teams, particularly project and asset teams
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Previous E&P experience preferred, but not required
 
Additional Requirements Include:
  • Skilled/mastery in technical risk assessment tools such as Hazid, Hazop, physical effects modelling, QRA
  • Skilled of codes, API, SEMP etc and their application and interpretation for on and offshore EP operations
  • Skilled in group HSE standards and processes (EP 9500, EP 2005, yellow guides etc)
  • Skilled in risk decision making and making structured arguments for selected course of action
