We have vacancies in the Sultanate of Oman for Senior Well Engineers with proven experience in Hoist Operations. Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) is the major exploration and production company in the Sultanate. It accounts for about 90% of the country's crude-oil production and nearly all of its natural-gas supply. The first economic find of oil was made in 1962, and the first consignment of oil was exported in 1967. Purpose To manage the operations and interfaces related to planning, programming and executing all activities undertaken by the Well Pulling Hoists (WPH) assigned to your control.
Responsibilities:
On a day-to-day basis you will: - Manage the operations of between 4 and 5 Hoists in your assigned geographical area, using your team of 4-5 office-based Well Engineers, 8 field-based Hoist Supervisors, and all associated Contractor field staff
- Be responsible for day-to-day hoist operations, ensuring compliance with all procedures, policies and Health Safety and Environmental (HSE) directives
- Manage the HSE performance of all operations under your control
- Provide operational, performance, and commercial advice to internal Contract Holders of the Hoist and associated services
- Nurture close cooperation with internal customers (Petroleum Engineering Teams) to ensure a deep understanding of requirements to achieve maximum value from activities undertaken by the Hoists in your portfolio, and share all learnings
- Develop and implement business improvement projects aimed at continuously improving operational performance
The role presents a number of Special Challenges such as: managing conflicting and demanding requirements;balance the effort that goes into day to day Hoist management with longer term operations planning; deliver ultimate flexibility to meet customer requirements, including business improvements; deliver programs of ever increasing complexity while at the same time reducing costs;ensure relationships with contractors are conducted in a firm, fair and auditable manner and against the highest standards.
Requirements:
To be successful in your application you will need to be a professional well engineer in possession of at least a higher education Diploma (eg. HND or equivalent), but preferably a Bachelors Degree or higher, in a technical or engineering subject. In addition to broad operational and design experience in well construction, you will need to have significant experience (at least 10 years) in various Well Services operational roles. We would expect you to have at least 2 years Hoist experience at Site Supervisor level, and additionally also to have spent 2 or more years as a Well Engineer supervising well construction (drilling) operations. You’ll need to have a valid well control certificate IWCF (Supervisors level). We expect you to have an in-depth knowledge of well life-cycle processes & procedures. As a senior supervisor, you must be able to demonstrate to us a history in building and managing effective teams using your strengths in communication at all organization levels, and your ability to motivate and stimulate subordinates to achieve breakthrough performance. You will also have well developed analytical skills and a strong business sense. Experience with performance optimization tools and techniques will be considered an advantage. Selected candidates will be encouraged to follow the Shell Group “Round 2” Distance Learning Program with the aim of obtaining this qualification within two years.
