Shell Exploration & Production Company (SEPCo) is responsible for safely finding, developing and producing oil and natural gas in the United States. Shell has been operating in the Gulf of Mexico for five decades and these operations provide more than 73 percent of our U.S. oil and gas production. Shell Unconventional Resources (SURE), is developing heavy oil and oil shale by applying a novel thermal-recovery process invented by Shell Technology E&P. The current activities are concentrated in North America but the portfolio includes potential targets around the world. Shell Unconventional Resources is currently seeking a Senior Staff Reservoir Engineer for its Houston, Texas location.

Responsibilities:


In this position, you will be a key member of an interdisciplinary team (Commercial Reservoir Modeling Development Team) of technical staff who will be identifying, quantifying and validating development enhancements for commercially sized applications of this novel technology with the ultimate objective of gaining approval for commercial development. Key Accountabilities: · Work cooperatively with existing technology teams to help accelerate the development and commercial application of this novel technology. · As a member of a development team, build and modify reservoir simulation models for commercial scale projects · Simulate subsurface transport and identify reservoir management strategies for optimizing performance using the reservoir simulation package STARS, which is sold by Computer Modeling Group, LTD. · Development of the IUP Simulator involving: o Building of the Kinetic Models o Calibrating permeability and porosity models from the laboratory data o Calibrating thermal properties from laboratory data o Modeling heat generation/transfer o Coupling geo-mechanical modules with these models o Building of simulation models based on geological data o Models and the resultant predictions will support the design of field pilots and eventually the commercial exploitation of various and globally located resources o Phased interference effects o Alternate process synergies · Provide reservoir input into economic studies performed by economists for project optimization work · Identify and recommend further technical effort, as required: o Further technology development and testing o Further data acquisition and/or field testing o Further technical study o Additional reservoir management tools o Reservoir simulator optimization · Support generation of necessary project management documentation o Feasibility Study o Field Development Plan o Asset Reference Plan o Surveillance Plan · Coordinate technical assurance and field development · Review/evaluate alternative recovery methods



Requirements:


To be considered for this position, you must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics and have approximately 6 or more years experience in reservoir engineering including dynamic reservoir modeling, simulation, reservoir surveillance and analysis. Additional Requirements: · Experience in project development and the Opportunity and Project Management Process · Experience in thermal reservoir engineering would be a strong advantage · Experience in reservoir engineering technology development would be an advantage · Knowledge of chemical reaction kinetics would be an advantage · Well developed inter-personal and communication skills · Ability to work in a multi-discipline team · Keen interest in developing and applying new technical concepts · Keen interest in economic optimization · Motivated / Self-starter · Ability to develop and follow your own work plans · Working knowledge of REPP2 Geology and REPP3 Petrophysics · Mastery of REPP6 Basic Data Interpretation and REPP4 Reservoir Engineering In addition to the tasks outlined in this job description, you may be assigned other responsibilities as needed.
