Shell Exploration & Production Company (SEPCo) is responsible for safely finding, developing and producing oil and natural gas in the United States. Shell has been operating in the Gulf of Mexico for five decades and these operations provide more than 73 percent of our U.S. oil and gas production. SEPCo, which employs approximately 2,000 people in the U.S., is the largest of Shell's E&P operating units, accounting for 17 percent of Shell's worldwide oil and gas production. Based in Houston, Texas, our key operating locations are in the Gulf of Mexico, South Texas, Wyoming, Alabama, and Alaska. Shell Exploration and Production Company is currently seeking a Lifting and Hoisting Operations Specialist for its various asset onshore/offshore US (Gulf of Mexico, Alabama, Texas, and Wyoming) location.
Responsibilities:
In this position, you will be responsible for supervising crane inspections and surveys and for providing technical advice and recommendations needed for maintaining our fleet of cranes in compliance with established Shell standards. Key Accountabilities: - Managing 3rd party type inspections and surveying to verify compliance with governing regulations, standards and procedures
- Developing inspection and survey crew schedules
- Providing site supervision in the field
- Interpreting established standards and operating procedures
- Developing recommendations to address deficiencies and improvements
- Managing crane installation, repair, and modification jobs executed by contract and SEPCo employees
- Troubleshooting equipment breakdowns and determine causative factors
- Developing work scopes and time, cost, and supporting resource estimates
- Developing Safe Work Plans that ensure that work is conducted safely and in accordance with governing regulations, standards, and procedures
- Providing inspection and quality assurance services to ensure that all work is performed to specification
- Assisting necessary in performing minor equipment repairs (with required “wrench time” associated with this work amounting to less than 20% of total time spent on all duties related to this job position)
- Developing or reviewing critical lift plans in conjunction with Civil Engineering and Construction Personnel
- Contributing to the initial development and periodic maintenance of SEPCo’ s crane and lifting standard OPS-0055
- Providing technical advise and counsel on standard content
- Carrying out audits in accordance with the standard
- Developing crane operator, rigger and lifting equipment training
- Performing associated competency assessments
- Performing Root Cause Failure Analysis and incident and near miss investigations on crane incidents
- Developing associated remedial action plans and present to management
- Ensuring core contractors follow Shell safety procedures and guidelines
- Providing general crane and lifting equipment discipline expertise as required supporting the maintenance and integrity programs
- Participating in industry committees and workshops such as API, OSHA and ANSI on Lifting and hoisting issues
- Creating and maintaining an environment of inclusion that respects and values individual differences and is aligned with Shell’s core values
- Committing to health, safety and protection of the environment
- Supporting RPD’s commitment to safety by complying with programs regarding health, safety and protection of the environment
- Demonstrating safe work practices, takes part in safety meetings as required, and advising relevant personnel of any non-conforming conditions
- Performing other projects / tasks / duties as assigned
Requirements:
To be considered for this position, you must possess a High School Diploma, 2-year technical degree preferred, and you must have approximately 10 years experience lifting and hoisting operations. Additional Requirements: - Demonstrated competence in crane and lifting equipment
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities to build ownership toward the asset and maximize results delivery
- Communicate effectively with engineering, operations employees, and contractors
- Identify and implement effective courses of action to complete work and ensure achievement of departmental goals
- Exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines
- Manage projects and processes effectively
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in crane and lifting equipment operations, maintenance, and engineering
- Must be able to respond to emergency calls as needed and work extended hours as appropriate
